Little Christmas Tree

Hello my card making friends!  I have another card using the Simon Says Stamp Stamptember collaboration with Trinity Stamps.  The idea behind this card were the Christmas Trees that I grew up with.  We had a huge picture window in our living room and every year, the tree would be set up right in front of that window.  It was always artificial, but it changed over the years.  The first one that I remember was a Aluminum tree with two color wheels.  Then for awhile it was a traditional green tree but when they came out with colored trees, my mom had a white tree for a number of years.  My Christmas tree used to be centered in my living room window until our fur baby, Quincy, came along.  Looking out the front window is one of his favorite things to do.  It was either relocate the tree elsewhere or risk it being knocked over by a dog.

In order to give depth to the window, I decided that a shaker card would do the trick.  The "wallpaper" on the front of the card was created by using the Lawn Fawn die called Quilted Backdrop.  I used a 3/4" piece of woodgrain cardstock for the floor topped with a 1/4" piece of dark brown woodgrain cardstock.    For the window, I cut it out of dark brown woodgrain cardstock using the Lawn Fawn Window Frame Die.  I added a touch of Vintage Photo Distress Oxide on the outside edge to soften the edges.

I used a patterned paper for the backing of the shaker element.  I wanted to add a little shimmer to it, so I spritzed it with a little bit of Tim Holtz Frozen Fog Mica Spray.  I added a small piece of white glittered cardstock to create the snowy ground.  In retrospect, I didn't need to add a snowy ground because the tree is so full, it covers it up.

I used a double layer of foam tape to create at well for the shaker elements.  I had some snowflake sequins in my stash but I couldn't tell you where they came from.  Once I had those sprinkled in, I placed a piece of clear acetate on top.  With that step completed, I adhered the front background piece on top.

The tree and packages were colored with Copic markers in the following colors:

  • G12, G14, G07
  • Y02, Y04, Y17
  • R14, R24, R39
  • B12, B23, B24
I used Trinity Stamps Simply Sentimental: Merry stamp set and coordinating die, for the sentiment.  It was heat embossed with gold embossing powder on red cardstock.

I really enjoyed making this card as it reminded me of my childhood.  Thank you for stopping by today and I hope you have an awesome day!

Sandy
